Sri Lanka Customs has a staff of over 2000 officers. They are employed at various Customs points around
the island, the Airport and the Colombo sea port being the main locations of its offices.
Sri Lanka Customs comes under the purview of the Ministry of Finance of which Honourable Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse is the
Minister.
Head of the Customs is The Director General, Mr. S. A. C. S. W. Jayathilake.
Sri Lanka Customs is a key state organization operational at the frontiers and its main functions center
around revenue collection and enforcing Customs law and other related rules and regulations. In the process the department
endevours to ensure smooth movement of people and goods across the border.
Our functions includes:
Collection of taxes, duties and other levies as imposed by the government
To ensure proper enforcement of tariff, trade and social protection policies of the state
To ensure flow of passenger, goods and related means of transport
The Sri Lanka Customs is dedicated to enforce revenue and social protection laws of the state while facilitating the trade with the objective of contributing to the national effort and in due recongnition thereof
Sri lanka Customs is one of the oldest government departments, established in the year 1806. With the introduction of Customs Ordinance, it developed into a full-pledged state organization mainly responsible for the collection of revenue and the enforcement of law.
