Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Sri Lanka Customs Department was established with a view of centralizing all customs investigations and maintaining Central Case Register (CCR). DO PL 456 Issued in this regard is attached at annex 1.
Existing CIB was upgraded to a directorate with the implementation of new organizational structure with a view of centralizing all customs investigations under one directorate that functions under Enforcement Cluster, in order to conduct investigations efficiently and effectively in professional manner. However, the following directorates and units will be allowed to handle investigations (provided that they are registered in CCR) for the purposes indicated against them.
It is also expected to continue with Central Case Registration more efficiently than done at present. In addition, all reward distributions will be handled by this directorate.
DOPL with regard to new Central Investigation Directorate is still under process. After several discussions, final draft of the same has been submitted to ADGC (Enforcement) to obtain approval from DGC. (Annex 4)
